Our Production Model & Impact

Bloodbath Studio has a proven track record of delivering ambitious, high-production-value projects through a hybrid model that combines earned income with substantial in-kind support from our creative community. This approach allows us to consistently produce work whose realized value far exceeds our direct cash budgets.

Over the past four years, Bloodbath Studio has raised approximately $55,000 in cash funding through a combination of City of Austin Economic Development support, private donors, nonprofit partnerships, and earned ticket revenue. That investment has been significantly amplified through extensive in-kind contributions—most notably through founder Hannah Varnell’s decade-long career in Austin’s film industry, Maia Vollbrecht’s access to University of Texas fine art resources, and our resident designers’ model and glam team networks.

These partnerships provide donated or reduced-rate crew labor, professional film and post-production services, equipment access, technical infrastructure, and livestream production. As a result, Bloodbath projects routinely achieve realized production values three to four times higher than their cash budgets.

Through this collaborative model, Bloodbath Studio has completed projects with total production values exceeding $200,000, while remaining publicly accessible and firmly artist-centered. Designers, filmmakers, and performers actively contribute through shared resources, skill-trading, and team-building—reflecting Austin’s long-standing DIY and cross-disciplinary arts culture.
